Free Bird and Tuesdays Gone by Skynyrd

by Jess
(Pittsburgh, PA)

I was 18 years old when my father was killed in a car accident in rural Southern Missouri in 2004. He was always a fan of Skynyrd and many other artists.

We played "Free Bird" and "Tuesday's Gone" at his funeral. There were other songs but they dont stick out as much as these 2 do.

Both songs still to this day leave a bit of a smile on my face when I hear them.

They way I remember my dad, he was very unemotional, always joking, always laughing, with a very witty sense of humor. So anything real sappy being played at his funeral wouldn't feel right.

It was a very beautiful service, one where you laugh and cry at the same time as we all shared fond memories of him. He served in the Marine Corps so the service was just that much more beautiful.

These songs are available now at Lynyrd Skynyrd - The Essential Lynyrd Skynyrd

Free Bird - Lynyrd Synyrd

by Amanda
(USA)

We played Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd at my best friends funeral.
It was truly an amazing song to remember him by.

Lyrics for Free Bird
If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be travelling on, now,
cause theres too many places Ive got to see.
But, if I stayed here with you, girl,
Things just couldnt be the same.
cause Im as free as a bird now,
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I cant change.

Bye, bye, its been a sweet love.
Though this feeling I cant change.
But please dont take it badly,
cause lord knows Im to blame.
But, if I stayed here with you girl,
Things just couldnt be the same.
Cause Im as free as a bird now,
And this bird youll never change.
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I cant change.
Lord help me, I cant change.

(allen collins - ronnie vanzant)

This song is available now at Lynyrd Skynyrd - 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird

Freebird

by John Hamiton
(Conway, AR )

My beautiful mother, Tara.

My beautiful mother, Tara.

My mother passed away January 29, 2008 at age 35. Her name was Tara Hamilton of Conway, Arkansas. She was killed in freak car accident. A few months before she died, she told me that she wanted this song played at her funeral, and I gave her her last wish. I was her only son, and I miss her with every beat of my heart, everyday. I know she knows that, and i know she misses me too.
