Firstly, silent night has been recorded (either in a studio or as a live performance at a christmas event) by lots of people: Mariah Carey, Britney Spears,Jewel, Aly and AJ, Bon Jovi...do a search on YouTube and it may help you figure out which was the one you heard.
I had never considered Silent Night as a funeral song, but the lyrics are so very peaceful and comforting. I hope it brought some peace to you and your friend's family when it was played.
In regards to Xavier Rudd - I haven't personally heard any of his songs at a funeral but he has lots of great music - some upbeat with social conscience and some soulful and emotional.
Maybe some songs that are played are: * My Missing * Where Do We Fit * This Little Space
