Top Funeral Songs of 2016

I have carefully analysed all the songs that came out in 2016 and decided that these songs hit the right mood if played at a funeral or memorial. Do you know of any other songs that could be added to this list? Do you agree with my choices? Please comment below.

1. Never Forget You by Zara Larsson & MNEK

This was one of the most popular songs of 2016. Swedish Superstar Zara Larsson’s voice blends beautifully with English singer/songwriter MNEK. It brings a happy, optimistic, upbeat feeling that even though someone is not with you, you can always spend time with them in your memories.

Lyrics

I used to be so happy
But without here I feel so low
I watched you as you left but I can never seem to let you go
‘Cause once upon a time you were my everything
It’s clear to see that time hasn’t changed a thing
It’s very deep inside me but I feel there’s something you should know
I’ll never forget you
You’ll always be by my side
From the day that I met you
I knew that I would love you ’til the day I die
And I will never want much more
And in my heart I will always be sure
I will never forget you
And you’ll always be by my side ’til the day I die
‘Til the day I die
Funny how we both end happy but everything seems alright, ooh
I wonder what will happen
If we went back and put up a fight
‘Cause once upon a time you were my everything
It’s clear to see that time hasn’t changed a thing
So, just what do you think could ever take you off my mind
I’ll never forget you
And you’ll always be by my side
From the day that I met you
I knew that I would love you ’til the day I die
And I will never want much more
And in my heart I will always be sure
I will never forget you
And you’ll always be by my side ’til the day I die

Doing it, loving it
Everything that we do
And all along, I knew I had something special with you
But sometimes you just gotta know that these things fall through
But I’m still tired and I can’t hide my connection with you
Feeling it, loving it
Everything that we do
And all along, I knew I had something special with you
But sometimes you just gotta know that these things fall through
I can’t hide my connection with you
I’ll never forget you
And you’ll always be by my side
From the day that I met you
I knew that I would love you ’til the day I die
And I will never want much more
And in my heart I will always be sure
That I will never forget you
And you’ll always be by my side ’til the day I die
‘Til the day I die, ’til the day I die, ’til the day I die
‘Til the day I die, ’til the day I die, ’til the day I die
I’ll never forget you (I will never, never, never, never, never, never)
I’ll never forget you
‘Til the day I die

Lost on You by LP

Most likely originally written as a “pain after the relationship break-up” song (as a lot of funeral songs are), the soulful voice of American singer Laura Pergolizzi touches your soul. The whole blend of the strumming guitar, emotional voice and atmospheric background sounds add up to an amazing song. My favourite line is “Let’s Raise A Glass or 2 to all the things I’ve lost on you”. You’re sad that it’s over but still happy and grateful that special person was in your life.

Lyrics

When you get older, plainer, saner
When you remember all the danger we came from
Burning like embers, falling, tender
Long before the days of no surrender
Years ago and well you know

Smoke ’em if you got ’em
‘Cause it’s going down
All I ever wanted was you
I’ll never get to heaven
‘Cause I don’t know how

Let’s raise a glass or two
To all the things I’ve lost on you
Oh oh
Tell me are they lost on you?
Oh oh
Just that you could cut me loose
Oh oh
After everything I’ve lost on you
Is that lost on you?
Oh oh
Is that lost on you?
Oh oh
Baby, is that lost on you?
Is that lost on you?

Wishing I could see the machinations
Understand the toil of expectations in your mind
Hold me like you never lost your patience
Tell me that you love me more than hate me all the time
And you’re still mine

So smoke ’em if you’ve got ’em
‘Cause it’s going down
All I ever wanted was you
Let’s take a drink of heaven
This can turn around

Let’s raise a glass or two
To all the things I’ve lost on you
Oh oh
Tell me are they lost on you?
Oh oh
Just that you could cut me loose
Oh oh
After everything I’ve lost on you
Is that lost on you?
Oh oh
Is that lost on you?
Oh oh, oh oh
Baby, is that lost on you?
Is that lost on you?

Let’s raise a glass or two
To all the things I’ve lost on you
Oh oh
Tell me are they lost on you?
Oh oh
Just that you cold cut me loose
Oh oh
After everything I’ve lost on you
Is that lost on you?
Is that lost on you?

Scars to Your Beautiful by Alessia Cara

Another amazing song “to all the girls that’s hurting”. Alessia Cara is a Canadian singer/songwriter. Her voice is so sweet and powerful, and she puts no doubt in your mind that we are all stars and we are all beautiful. It’s the scars of life’s ups and downs that create the most beautiful souls.

Lyrics

She just wants to be beautiful
She goes unnoticed, she knows no limits
She craves attention, she praises an image
She prays to be sculpted by the sculptor
Oh, she don’t see the light that’s shining
Deeper than the eyes can find it
Maybe we have made her blind
So she tries to cover up her pain and cut her woes away
‘Cause cover girls don’t cry after their face is made

But there’s a hope that’s waiting for you in the dark
You should know you’re beautiful just the way you are
And you don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful
Oh-oh, oh-oh
And you don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful

She has dreams to be an envy, so she’s starving
You know, covergirls eat nothing
She says beauty is pain and there’s beauty in everything
What’s a little bit of hunger?
I could go a little while longer, she fades away
She don’t see her perfect, she don’t understand she’s worth it
Or that beauty goes deeper than the surface
Oh, oh
So to all the girls that’s hurting
Let me be your mirror, help you see a little bit clearer
The light that shines within

There’s a hope that’s waiting for you in the dark
You should know you’re beautiful just the way you are
And you don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful

Oh-oh, oh-oh
And you don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful

No better you than the you that you are (no better you than the you that you are)
No better life than the life we’re living (no better life than the life we’re living)
No better time for your shine, you’re a star (no better time for your shine, you’re a star)
Oh, you’re beautiful, oh, you’re beautiful

And there’s a hope that’s waiting for you in the dark
You should know you’re beautiful just the way you are
And you don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful
Oh-oh, oh-oh
And you don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful
