Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers

What do you think?

According to a fascinating blog post on Spinditty, ‘Unchained Melody’ was written for a 1955 little-known film called Unchained, which is how the song got it’s title. This song became one of the most popular songs for artists to record in the 20th century -over 1,500 recordings of “Unchained Melody” have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.

The most popular version is this one by The Righteous Brothers, recorded in 1965. Critics described it as “a record designed to reduce anyone separated from the one they loved to a “pile of mush”.

Lyrics

Oh, my love, my darling
I’ve hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time
Time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me
Lonely rivers flow
To the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh
“Wait for me, wait for me”
I’ll be coming home, wait for me
Oh, my love, my darling
I’ve hungered, for your touch
A long, lonely time
Time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me
