I’ll Fly Away by Gillian Welch & Alison Krauss

What do you think?
I'll Fly Away by Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch

This song was written in 1929 and has been a well loved gospel song played at churches of all denominations. It has also been a popular choice to be played at funeral services because of it’s theme of escaping the “prison walls” of humanity and finding eternal life in heaven. The song most recently had a revival because of its inclusion in the soundtrack for the 2000 film “O Brother, where art thou”.

Lyrics

Some bright morning when this life is over
I’ll fly away
To that home on God’s celestial shore
I’ll fly away
I’ll fly away, oh glory
I’ll fly away in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I’ll fly away
When the shadows of this life have gone
I’ll fly away
Like a bird from these prison walls I’ll fly
I’ll fly away
I’ll fly away, oh glory
I’ll fly away in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I’ll fly away

Oh, how glad and happy when we meet
I’ll fly away
No more cold iron shackles on my feet
I’ll fly away
I’ll fly away, oh glory
I’ll fly away in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I’ll fly away
I’ll fly away, oh glory
I’ll fly away in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I’ll fly away
Just a few more weary days and then
I’ll fly away
To a land where joys will never end
I’ll fly away
I’ll fly away, oh glory
I’ll fly away in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah by and by
I’ll fly away
I’ll fly away
