‘Precious Child’ is written and performed by Karen Taylor-Good, an American singer/songwriter. She has written songs for many well known country music stars, but this song was written for her sister Bonnie, whose 21 year old son was murdered. Karen was asked to sing at a local candle-lighting ceremony for the Compassionate Friends organisation, who hold this annual event for everyone in the community who have children that have passed away at any age from any cause.
Karen was eating breakfast at a waffle house when the song suddenly came to her. She wrote the music and lyrics on a napkin. A week later, she recorded it. The song was performed at the candle-lighting ceremony, and since then it has become a popular song choice for parents looking for a beautiful song to play at a funeral or memorial for their child.
