Songs for my grandpa’s funeral

What do you think?
 by Ashley
(Parksville BC)

I have a few songs from my grandpas funeral who died in 2007 at age 82. He was very special to me and out of 3 grandkids I was his favorite. We chose 4 important songs that represented him in every way and it fit perfectly to play at his funeral

Daddy's Hands by Holly Dunn

Lyrics

I remember daddy’s hands folded silently in prayer
And reachin’ out to hold me, when I had a nightmare
You could read quite a story in the callous’ and lines
Years of work and worry had left their mark behind
I remember daddy’s hands how they held my mama tight
And patted my back for something done right
There are things that I’d forgotten that I loved about the man
But I’ll always remember the love in daddy’s hands
Daddy’s hands were soft and kind when I was cryin’
Daddy’s hands were hard as steel when I’d done wrong
Daddy’s hands weren’t always gentle but I’ve come to understand
There was always love in daddy’s hands
I remember daddy’s hands workin’ ’til they bled
Sacrificed unselfishly just to keep us all fed
If I could do things over, I’d live my life again
And never take for granted the love in daddy’s hands
Daddy’s hands were soft and kind when I was cryin’
Daddy’s hands were hard as steel when I’d done wrong
Daddy’s hands weren’t always gentle but I’ve come to understand
There was always love in daddy’s hands
Daddy’s hands were soft and kind when I was cryin’
Daddy’s hands were hard as steel when I’d done wrong
Daddy’s hands weren’t always gentle but I’ve come to understand
There was always love in daddy’s hands.

Grandpa (Tell Me 'bout the Good Old Days) by The Judds

Lyrics

Grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
Sometimes it feels like this world’s gone crazy
And Grandpa, take me back to yesterday
When the line between right and wrong
Didn’t seem so hazy
Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may?
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say and then forget
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away?
Oh, Grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
Grandpa, everything is changing fast
We call it progress, but I just don’t know
And Grandpa, let’s wander back into the past
And paint me the picture of long ago
Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may?
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say and then forget
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away?
Oh, Grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
Oh, Grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days.

Grandpa Told Me So by Kenny Chesney

Lyrics

If you don’t get in the water, you’re never gonna learn to swim
He said a snake is just as scared of you, as you are of him
He could tell by the moon when the fish would bite
Seems there was nothing that he didn’t know
And as a kid I believed, ’cause grandpa told me so
He talked daddy into letting me have my first car
I thought I was really something till Becky Thompson broke my heart
That first taste of love nearly did me in
Getting over her was slow
And I knew someday I would, ’cause grandpa told me so
He said life was made for you to live
The best love is the love that you give
There’ll be times when you wanna hold on but you gotta let go
And I lived by those words, ’cause grandpa told me so
I promised him I wouldn’t cry when it was his time to leave
That’s the only promise I made him I couldn’t keep
He smiled from his bed and said we’ll meet again
Somewhere down the road
And I believed, ’cause grandpa told me so
He said life was made for you to live
The best love is the love that you give
There’ll be times when you wanna hold on but you gotta let go
And I lived by those words, ’cause grandpa told me so
He said life was made for you to live
The best love is the love that you give
There’ll be times when you wanna hold on but you gotta let go
And I lived by those words, ’cause grandpa told me so
Yeah and I still believe, ’cause grandpa told me so
Grandpa told me so
I still believe
Grandpa told me so
I still believe
Yeah and I still believe

Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)
by The Dixie Chicks

Lyrics

Dragon tales and the Water is Wide
Pirates sail and lost boys fly
Fish bite moonbeams every night
And I love you
Godspeed little man
Sweet Dreams little man
Oh, my love will fly to you each night on angel’s wings
Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)
The rocket racer’s all tuckered out
Superman’s in pajamas on the couch
Goodnight moon we’ll find the mouse
And I love you
Godspeed little man
Sweet Dreams little man
Oh, my love will fly to you each night on angel’s wings

Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)
God bless Mommy and matchbox cars
God bless Dad and thanks for the stars
God hears “amen” wherever we are
And I love you
Godspeed little man
Sweet Dreams little man
Oh, my love will fly to you each night on angel’s wings
Godspeed Godspeed
